What does Self-Care Look Like to You?

Parenthood is a beautiful and fulfilling journey, but let's be honest: it is exhausting. The life of a caregiver is often filled with sleepless nights and endless responsibilities. As a mom, I feel like a master juggler, skillfully managing a myriad of duties. From cooking meals and doing laundry to managing appointments and coordinating family schedules, wearing multiple hats a day. This mental and physical load can be overwhelming, but I'm always determined to keep things running as smoothly as they can be!
Self-care doesn't have to be time consuming, but it must be a ritual. When life is busy, self-care becomes even more important. By prioritizing small moments of self-nurturing, planning and scheduling self-care activities, embracing self-compassion, simplifying and delegating tasks, practicing mindfulness and gratitude, and setting boundaries, you can ensure that self-care remains a vital part of your life. Remember, self-care isn't a luxury; it's a necessity for your well-being and resilience in the face of life's demands.
Self-care doesn't look the same for every family, there is not "One solution fits all" kind of deal. You have to put in your effort and be creative! Evaluate your circumstances and set up a plan for your non-negotiables.
As an example, here are my non-negotiables to help prioritize my self-care even in the midst of chaos.
1- One food and drink that makes me happy when I feel down
(Donuts🍩and Decaf Coffee☕)
- My Favourite donuts are from Suzy Q
- Any Decaf coffee but prefer McDonalds or Tims on the go
2- Hobbies that I can put down at any time
(Multiplayer games that are not time sensitive 🎮 and reading 📖)
- I prioritize an hour a day to play steam games with my husband and friends.
- I have an e-reader that I use every other night when I have a chance to read. If you want to see what I'm currently reading checkout my Instagram @lizsfantasyreads
3- Chatting with family and friends
- This includes date nights with my husband
4- Home-spa day
(Including meditation and exercise)
- This one only happens on Friday nights
That's about it! I wish I could add more stuff, but with my current family dynamics this is what works for me to keep me running smoothly. The rest of the time is house work, homeschooling and family activities.
