Let's talk about baby clothes
Share
When it comes to dressing our little ones, choosing the right baby size can be a challenging task. I remember my first baby getting loads of beautiful clothes from family and friends that did not fit after two weeks of wear. I felt guilty because I couldn’t get to all of them and had to move on to the next size. With my second I felt I had purchased the right amount of newborn clothes, thinking "my children will grow at a similar rate". Fat chance, my littlest munchkin needed newborn clothes for far longer than my first, so we had to rush and buy more.
If this resonates with you, then you are absolutely not alone!
Unlike adult clothing, baby clothing sizes lack a consistent standard across brands. Each brand may have its own unique sizing system, making it crucial to familiarize yourself with the specific brand's sizing chart before making a purchase. Keep in mind that even within the same brand, sizes may vary between different collections or styles.
That’s why I’ve compiled a selection of popular brands and their measurements. This guide has not only helped me pick the right sizing for my children but also made the shopping process less stressful and much more fun.

H&M:
Out of all the clothing sites I’ve researched, H & M has the most measurements. I won’t post them here as it’s quite extensive. Please feel free to check it out here.
In addition to the list I like to follow these five tips:
- Always buy one size up.
- Check for reviews, materials, durability, washing instructions, etc. ( Some clothing items like 100% cotton will shrink over time)
- Start with a few pieces at a time.
- Check for return and exchange policies.
- Mix and match brands (My oldest wears Carter’s pants and Old Navy shirts for best fit)
